Take a look at your place, your surroundings, and your environment and try to figure out what are the problems that people face, what is missing and what can you do to improve the situation. One college student took the time to research about a problem he had and he wanted to know how many students or even workers faced the same problem. He hated washing clothes and always procrastinated until he had 1 pair left in the wardrobe to wash again. This situation prompted him to he research on the predominance of the problem and to his surprise, students, workers, and families had the same problem. He saw the demand of a better solution to this problem. He started a dry cleaning app where people can have their clothes cleaned at a very cheap price and with available transport. He turned the problem into an opportunity. Learn to grab opportunities from your surroundings. I remember asking advice from a friend on what business I should start and he said that I am probably sitting on it!!. Your business is right where you are but only if you can look around you and notice what is missing and what needs innovation. Start with creative solutions; Study your area and find creative solution through them, brainstorm on ideas to bring innovations, avoid saying to yourself ‘’this won’t work any idea you have is worth giving it a try.
1. Track your situation
It was one rainy season when a marketing manager from a certain firm was called in on a radio interview and asked that if the radio were to give him ten thousand, what will he use it for? He said I will buy umbrellas and walk around the street and sell. "But why umbrellas?" asked the radio presenter. The manager responded that due to the rainy season umbrellas are on high demand. This means that if you can assess the current situation you then you won’t miss a business opportunity. The situation could be anything from weather to social media platforms, and trending styles.
2. Seize opportunities from crises
A crisis is an emergency situation that requires immediate response. It is often within a short time frame with a sense of urgency and clear consequences of success or failure thus requiring people to step up to new performance levels. You can innovate ideas from the problems, you may not exactly change the situation but avoid turning the bad to worse.
3. Stay updated
In order to think outside the box, you need to be updated on current issues paying particular attention to the latest technology. With technological advancements come customer needs changes. What a current customer needs today isn’t the same as that needed 10 years ago. So before innovating, understand what is new, and how to improve it.
4. Feed your mind
Learning never ends. Always try to learn new things, feeding your brain with new ideas and action plans. Read books, research new data, and successful entrepreneurs, google new techniques and skills. The more you read the more insights and knowledge you expand the scope of your ideas
