I get it, it sounds great to be young and your own
boss. However, a lot of young girls are faced with the challenges to decide whether
or not they should ditch employment and go after self-employment. So let's get
into it, what's so compelling about being your own boss? Well, for one you
think you won't have to answer to that someone who keeps telling you what to
do. Unless of course you weren't planning on having any clients, the news flash
is, there will be people telling you what to do. So get into this knowingly.
How do you then decide to be your own boss or not to be?
i) You don’t like
structures The case for self-employment seems
like a good idea because you're not fit or standard employment and you wouldn’t
like structures. However, this is true for only small-scale business owners
than the big ones because once you become big, structures will be inevitable.
ii) You want to be
in charge of your priorities One of the most
common reasons for wanting to be your own boss is the creation of an
environment where you are the one setting your work priorities. While its great
to be in control of your priorities when you are your own boss, you might end
up spending more time running to meet client’s deadlines hence give more to your
business. Mind you, the more clients you have, and especially the more
employees you have, the longer and more intensely you will work.
iii) The decision
to become self-employed should be based on logic, not emotion. If you think you have got 4 clients who are likely
to give you work in the next three months; also think that the 4 clients might
not come through at once in the next three months; and even more so think about
what happens if they don't come through at all and you end up incurring expenses.
So employ all logic, don't get pulled by how great everything seem.
iv) You have a
strong calling into pursuing your passion On the
other hand, you can’t remove emotion from the process. Most people who start
their own businesses do so because there's a strong push from deep within that
urges them to follow through. If you have a voice that says, "I really
love the spices and grains of this kind of works baking, editing, farming, etc.
And because I love it so much, I know that's why I'll be successful.
"There's a lot to be said for this passion. For one, passion is what
separates artists from technicians. Passion is why you get up early, stay late
and put in time on the weekends. If you don't have the passion and the emotion
you probably would never make the effort to start a business in the first
place. And maybe your business wouldn't last long anyway because that's what
enables you to work hard enough to beat the odds and succeed where many others
